The campus, which is being constructed by Dürr on a total of 20,000 square meters in Qingpu, will house offices, a validation center designed for the pre-commissioning of robots and with a modern spare parts warehouse, as well as a 2,000-square-meter technical center and a 2,600-square meter training center. All in all, Dürr China, which employs more than 2,000 staff, will have over 46,000 square meters of production space and 7,500 square meters of office space available in addition to its other facilities.
Dürr's mechanical engineering activities in China are established on Schenck Shanghai Machinery (for balancing, cleaning, testing, assembly and filling technology) and HOMAG Machinery Shanghai (for woodworking machinery and systems). Almost 1,000 employees will be working in around 43,500 square meters of production space and 11,000 of office space.
"The campus is a signal that we believe in the Chinese market and its growth in the long term. We are investing to further expand our strong position here", explained Reiner Schmid, CEO of Dürr China, during the groundbreaking ceremony.
This project offers customers several benefits: They will no longer have to send their employees to Germany for equipment training. And they can have new materials and processes developed and tested at the new local technical center for paint systems in Qingpu.
The campus with its training and technical centers is due to open in early 2017. Dürr has already implemented the campus concept in other countries such as Germany and United States.
