Young people who want to start an apprenticeship in Germany are faced with the important decision of choosing the right apprenticeship occupation and company. The choices of professions and companies are huge. That is why the question of training quality is particularly significant. In order to provide young people with guidance, Deutschland Test and Focus Money publish a “Training Atlas for Germany,” listing the best training companies in various sectors. In mechanical and plant engineering, HOMAG and Dürr Systems are two companies from the Dürr Group ranking among the best in 2022.
“You get the best skilled workers by training them in your own company, which is why we aim to take on all trainees as permanent employees,” says Group Human Resources Director Klaus Achtelik. In the competition for the next generation of skilled workers, it is important to offer high-quality training and a comprehensive training program. The Dürr Group therefore offers, among other things, stays abroad and mentoring programs. “We train our apprentices on an equal footing; all training supervisors in our company are united by a passion for helping young people succeed,” reports Steffen Stippl, Training Manager at HOMAG in Schopfloch and coordinator of the HOMAG training network. “We are very pleased with this great second place, and at the same time we see it as an incentive not to let up but to continue improving our trainers’ quality,” says Dr. Daniel Schmitt, CEO of HOMAG.
Even after successful completion of the apprenticeship, the Dürr Group offers comprehensive training opportunities for further career development.
The Training Atlas from Deutschland Test and Focus Money is based on a study by the Institute for Management and Economic Research (IMWF). It is based on a questionnaire and the evaluation of various Internet sources – so-called social listening. The 20,000 companies with the highest numbers of employees in the country were examined. Both HOMAG and Dürr Systems received the “Germany’s Best Training Companies 2022” award, finishing in second and twelfth place respectively in the top field of mechanical and plant engineering.
The Dürr Group employs a total of more than 400 trainees and students in work-study programs in Germany. A good 65% of them are employed by HOMAG, the world market leader for woodworking machinery. Every year, approximately 140 young people start an apprenticeship at the German locations of the Dürr Group. The Dürr Group’s range of vocational training includes 17 commercial and technical/industrial apprenticeships and 13 work-study programs.
